YTD - November 2025

November review

Ended the month up just a bit, pushing the YTD performance to 92%.

Felt jittery this month, putting on and reducing exposure a few times. Trades in higher beta growth and Chinese names post the Trump-Xi meeting did not go so well, with many of my attempted entries getting stopped out. Gave up trying after a few losing trades to preserve capital and wait for charts to set up.

Had a couple of trades in silver via SLV calls, but as of 1 December morning, it looks like I should have been a bit more aggressive heading into the end of the month. Exposure via miners would have been nice. In hindsight, the charts patterns always look so obvious - the way they find support at moving averages and coil, while basing or making higher lows. I've added exposure in some longer term accounts, but this feels like a big miss. No choice but to wait for the pullback now.

Trades closed in November with >1% impact on Portfolio, in no particular order:

Profits:

  • MIN (ASX)
  • SBSW
  • SSL
  • CMBT (equity & calls)
  • SLV (calls)

Losses:

  • UUUU
  • IE

Looking ahead

Seems like there may be a Santa rally. Regardless, my plan is to: stay nimble, buy fear at good technical points, and exit at pops. Looking back, I am constantly reminded that it is better to be patient and go for the low hanging fruit. Six 8% trades are easier than one 48 % trade. Another thing I need to get better at is getting in (at least partially) at the lower end of the price structure, instead of waiting for the charts to set up perfectly and entering just before or after the breakouts.

Of interest:

  • Precious metals, especially silver, look like they're starting the next leg up.
  • Metals are looking good too
  • Chemicals had good relative strength during the mid month pullback, with some forming potential bases, and some making higher lows.
  • Oil looking weak, but watching to potentially pick up bargains (maybe LEAPS) on further weakness, especially in diversified companies with low cost of production.
  • Grains look good but I don't trade futures, so just watching (soybeans, wheat, corn).
  • Ethereum down almost 47% from the highs to the previous breakout zone - maybe a temporary bottom - had a position (via ETHA) for a quick trade, but mindful that it could go lower
